Cloth Dipes

As of April 21st I started on a Cloth Diaper journey. I was inspired by a few cute prints and a few friends who had already had their babes in the environment saving diapers!
I thought since one pack of diapers at their lowest price costs 25 dollars, why not spend 25 dollars on one cloth diaper, and so I did!
I bought 8 in stores @ Podlings & the rest online at Ebay.com and OnePoshBaby.com
Going cloth was a no brainer. It's simple, when you plan to have more kids shortly down the road and diapers are at such a high price as they are, why not?
Not only does it save your baby from a very dangerous toxin, check out this:

"Disposable diapers contain traces of Dioxin, an extremely toxic by-product of the paper-bleaching process. It is a carcinogenic chemical, listed by the EPA as the most toxic of all cancer-linked chemicals. It is banned in most countries, but not"

Also I found this disgusting, please read the following:

"No one knows how long it takes for a disposable diaper to decompose, but it is estimated to be about 250-500 years, long after your children, grandchildren and great, great, great grandchildren will be gone"

Not only do diapers leave harsh rashes, I found Hudson leaked almost once a day regardless how I put it on or what brand I used.
Friends, store owners and other moms were reporting to save between 2500-3000 a year, just on DIAPERS! That's insane!
I now own a total of thirty-five dipes ( but not at the estimated 25/diaper. I bought most on Ebay.com for much less, making it a much easier price to swallow.
You only need 15-20 diapers for a newborn but I have so many since I'm living in a cabin with no water. I have to do a wash about every 4-5 days.

Glen and I were talking the other day and we're just to pleased that we threw some money into the ring initially. We feel so good about Hudson's little bum and our new money we will be saving, for kids to come as well.

Hudson hasn't had a rash OR a leak of any kind since switching. It's a bill we were willing to pay for, and we will spread the word to moms-to-be!

That's awesome, Jess. Good on you and Glen for being environmentally friendly while looking out for Hudson's best health interests. If I ever have some little ones, this is definitely something I'll look into.

I cloth diaper, but use disposables at night because I'm worried if I don't my son will be waking up more often than he should because he's wet. Do you use the cloth at night? How do you find that affects Hudson's sleep?

Yeah-- I think you're right! He used to sleep from 8 pm-5:30 or 6 am.. but now it's down at 9, wake at 1 am, down till 4, and etc..
he gets up 3-4 times throughout the night. I might try using a disposable but who knows, I am thinking of trying drybees all-nighter's fleecies.
I was using cloth at day, and disposables at night, but I ran out of disposables over a month ago, and we never bought more.

I've actually just done some research on this and see that adding a hemp insert makes a difference for overnight. Have you tried that?

hmmm no, oddly enough. I do have a few though. I will try it tonight!
Thanks for the info! I will let you know how it works.
Also, do you have a blog?

How did the insert experiment go?

I just bought a bunch of Flips and I'll try them overnight soon. I'll probably blog about that shortly, as well.

You have a link to my blog in your blogroll - I'm from babycentre (NervousMeg). Thanks for linking to me!
